Project Overview
This project included the installation of a 4-foot white vinyl open picket fence with 7/8" × 3" pickets along a 280-foot perimeter at a residential property in Wrightwood. The scope also featured one sliding electric gate, built without an aluminum frame and equipped with a solar panel and keypad, designed for smooth, automated driveway access.
The Challenge: Clean Lines Across a Long, Street-Facing Property
The homeowner wanted to clearly define the property boundary while preserving openness and views. The fence needed to follow the grade cleanly, avoid visual breaks, and support automated vehicle access without interfering with the street or driveway.
Key challenges included:
- Sloped Ground: The fence line runs along uneven terrain, requiring careful height control to avoid gaps or uneven transitions.
- Long, Exposed Run: With 280 feet fully visible from the street, straight alignment and consistency were critical.
- Automated Access: The driveway gate needed to operate smoothly on a slope without swinging outward.
The Solution: Long-Run Picket Fencing with Solar-Powered Access
1. 4-Foot White Vinyl Open Picket Fence
We installed a 4-foot white vinyl open picket fence using 7/8" × 3" pickets along the full 280-foot perimeter.
Why it works: The open picket design keeps the property visually light and maintains clear sightlines, which is ideal for hillside and scenic locations.
Installation detail: The fence was carefully stepped and leveled along the slope to maintain a consistent top line and prevent uneven gaps at ground level.
2. Long-Run Alignment Control
Given the length and exposure of the fence, visual accuracy was a key focus.
Why it works: Precise post spacing and straight runs prevent a wavy appearance that becomes especially noticeable on long, open fence lines.
3. Sliding Electric Gate with Solar Panel and Keypad
At the driveway, we installed a sliding electric gate equipped with a solar panel and keypad.
Why it works: Sliding operation keeps the gate parallel to the fence line, avoiding interference with the street or sloped driveway. Solar power eliminates trenching and simplifies installation.
Access control: The keypad provides secure, controlled entry while keeping the gate design clean and uncluttered.
4. Aluminum-Free Gate Construction
The sliding gate was built without an aluminum frame.
Result: This keeps the gate visually consistent with the vinyl picket fence while still delivering reliable automated performance.
Key Takeaways
- Open picket fencing works best on hillside and scenic properties where visibility matters.
- Sloped terrain requires careful stepping and height control for clean results.
- Long fence runs demand precise alignment to maintain a professional look.
- Sliding electric gates are ideal for inclined or street-facing driveways.
- Solar-powered systems reduce installation complexity and energy dependency.
