Project Overview
This project involved upgrading a backyard perimeter with a full-privacy vinyl fence and a vinyl wall topper installed on an existing brick wall at a residential property in Granada Hills. The goal was to create a cohesive, classic-looking privacy solution while keeping the space warm, inviting, and easy to maintain.
The Challenge: Privacy Without a Heavy Look
The property had two different boundary conditions:
- An open yard area that required a full-height privacy fence
- A brick retaining wall that needed additional height for privacy without demolition
The homeowner wanted strong privacy but specifically asked to avoid bright white fencing, which tends to show dirt quickly and can feel visually harsh in natural backyard settings.
Key challenges included:
- Mixed Structures: Combining a full fence installation with a wall-mounted topper
- Visual Consistency: Making both sections look like one unified project
- Color Selection: Achieving a classic look with a warmer, softer tone
- Low Maintenance: Choosing a finish that stays cleaner longer than white
The Solution: Warm, Cohesive Privacy with Tan Vinyl
1. 6-Foot Full-Privacy Tan Vinyl Fence
We installed a full-privacy vinyl fence along the open yard section.
Why it works: The solid panel design fully blocks sightlines, creating a private and comfortable outdoor space while maintaining clean, straight lines.
2. 3-Foot Vinyl Wall Topper on Existing Brick Wall
Instead of rebuilding the wall, a matching tan vinyl wall topper was installed directly on top of the brick structure.
Why it works: The topper adds privacy height without additional masonry work and visually extends the fence line, keeping the entire perimeter consistent.
3. Tan Color for a Warmer, More Practical Look
The homeowner chose tan vinyl instead of white.
Why it works: Tan delivers a classic, timeless appearance with a warmer feel. It blends naturally with greenery, stone, and brick—and doesn’t show dirt or dust as quickly as white fencing.
4. Unified Design Across Two Installations
Special care was taken to match panel style, spacing, and proportions between the fence and the wall topper.
Result: Even though two different installation methods were used, the finished project looks like a single, well-planned privacy system.
